Amboseli National Park
-December 2013-
In December 2013, we took a weekend trip to Amboseli National Park, which is on the southern border of Kenya, next to Tanzania. The park is best known for its vast population of elephants and views of Mt Kiliminjaro, which is located just across the border in Tanzania.
We picked a very adventurous time to go - rainy season! In trying to access the lodge where we were staying, we managed to get stuck 3 times in 3 separate vehicles over the course of the weekend! The first time was in our cab from Nairobi. The cab driver was dutifully trying to get us to our final destination, but the cab was no match for the muddy, unpaved roads. The next morning heading out on our first game drive, we got stuck in the lodge's safari vehicle. When it became apparent it would not be easy to get the first vehicle out, we jumped into the lodge's remaining safari vehicle, and then proceeded to get stuck in a second location! We managed to take out the lodge's entire safari fleet in one morning! Another nearby lodge came to rescue us and eventually got us to our first game drive.
The rest of the weekend went off without a hitch, well, at least the driving portion. Later in the weekend, Sean opened the closet in our room to find a snake staring back at him, but the lodge manager removed it with a rake!! A very memorable weekend overall!
